Excellence. Growth. Tradition.
Preparation for college and adult life isn’t just found between the covers of a book. It’s also found in the heart of a caring teacher, in the smile of a friendly classmate, and in the eyes of an encouraging school community.
Take a look at Mount St. Mary and you, too, will discover what we have known for more than 160 years — that young women excel personally and academically in an all-girls environment.

Class of 2011 Starts a New Tradition for Young Alums

Eighty members of the Class of 2011 reunited at Mount St. Mary over Christmas break, starting a new tradition for younger alums. The MSM Foundation Office and Principal Diane Wolfe hosted a java bar and dessert get-together to provide the young alumnae with the opportunity to enjoy some Christmas cheer and catch up with classmates and teachers on their first semester of college.
Survey Results In for "Single-Sex Schooling: a Pro or Con?"
Over 300 alumnae responded to the Mount St. Mary survey sent in response to a recent study citing that single-sex schooling reduces boys' and girls' opportunities to work together and reinforces sex stereotypes. (NOTE: the creators of the study are also the founders of the American Council for CoEducational Schooling.) We asked Mount St. Mary alumnae for their feedback, based on their own experiences at an all-girls school. The 300 participants rated their experience at Mount St. Mary a 4.8 on a scale of five. Eighty-seven (87%) of survey participants listed academic preparedness as an advantage of an all-girls school, eighty-four (84%) listed confidence and sense of self as well as friendship and sisterhood, followed by leadership (67%), faith development (61%) and other (6%). Cons listed were limited social interaction with males (51%), followed by other (43%), of which most listed NONE to cons at an all-girls school! Out of the 300 who responded, 92% said that they would choose an all-girls school for themselves or their daughters, if they had to do it all over again. If you would like to receive alumnae emails and surveys, please send your email address to aluminfo@mtstmary.edu, and be sure to include your full name and class year.
